It's been so long since I have written a post that I wasn't too sure if anybody was still visiting. However I received an email this morning from a lovely blogger who kindly wrote a note to check if everything was OK. I'm happy to say that all is going well in my little world.

We are just about to start building a new house so I've been busy finalising the plans and sourcing decor & fittings for all the rooms. I have also been designing a new website and setting up an online business that I hope to launch in May called 'Ojoli'. It's been quite a challenge because I've had to teach myself a whole new set of skills. I've also started studying a new course through the International School of Colour & Design (Interior Styling & Colour Design). I'm enjoying it immensely and look forward to applying what I've learnt to some upcoming projects. So I'm tackling lots and lots of NEW stuff at the moment!!

I'll certainly try to post a few more updates and any pieces of inspiration I come across over the next few months.

I was recently going through some of my old Australian Country Style magazines and came across this holiday house owned by Anna Spiro of 'Absolutely beautiful things'. I couldn't help but notice all of the names in the byline;

'Styling Shannon Fricke Photography Jared Fowlers Words Barbara Sweeney'.

WOW! I would have loved to have been a fly-on-the-wall at this shoot to have seen this talented group of people working together.

I know have mentioned this before but Country Style is certainly one of my favourite magazines. It highlights modern country living and brings to life the stories of inspirational people and places from around Australia. If you were interested in any back issues or to subscribe visit here.

First Iris has flowered...

This time last year when my parents came to visit me, they brought with them dozens of Iris plants from their own garden (that is 7 hours away!) and transplanted them into mine. This morning, I saw that the very first one had flowered!

I wrote about of this gorgeous greenhouse some time ago. I still absolutely adore the images so was thrilled to find out the owner Heather Cameron (who's husband built it for her as a wedding gift!) also has a blog 'A day in the country'.

Heather Cameron has been a professional prop stylist and story producer in Vancouver BC since 2001. After purchasing an organic blueberry farm and moving to the country, Heather began producing and styling for national and international magazines.

I highly recommend a visit to her website to see more images of her delightful work.

I think her imagery and simple messages are really effective. They perfectly portray the feelings I have when I'm in desperate need of an energy boost to get through the day. She has also kindly created one of the photographs as a downloadable wallpaper.

This would have to be one of the most beautiful garden weddings I've come across so far. I adore every detail and love the soft colour palette that has been used. It was created by the incredibly talented Beth Halmsetter who also has a fantastic blog with plenty of event planning advice, tidbits and inspiration. To see more photos visit here and here.

I'm just about to head off to a garden wedding today as well which I'm sure will be lovely. Then on Sunday our annual food & wine festival 'Gourmet-in-Gundy' is being held. Can't wait!

I came across the whimsical mirrors designed by Cindy-Lee Davies via a gorgeous blog called 'Searching for sporadic surprises.' The author is an Australian Interior Architect/Designer and her lovely profile introduction reads "I love the sound of a posted letter hitting all the others in the post box, I love the smell of new coloured pencils and my favourite word is persimmon."

The delightful handmade cotton tapes are created by French designer Anna Barrow who sells her creations through her etsy store Lilla lotta.

I had every intention of planting roses this year but my gardening procrastination got the better of me again. Perhaps I'll need to cheat and purchase a few already in bloom instead. Ummm...think it's time for me to start getting back on the treadmill for summer too!

I'm back! We had a fantastic time in Sydney and certainly made the most being so close to beautiful cafe's, restaurants and great coffee! I think a favourite new find for me was a little restaurant called Nu's on Blues Point road, McMahon's Point. It specialises in 'middle kingdom' thai cuisine created from local australian produce. As one food critic said 'a dazzling experience' from start to finish.

I also purchased a new toy - a Nikon D90 DSLR camera (many thanks to those of you who emailed with advice about this, particularly 'It's what I love' who sent me this helpful link.) I took the image above from where we were staying at Harbour Side Apartments. I have an awful lot to learn about photography but certainly look forward to experimenting with it.

I took this photo in a wheat field on the farm. It's so lush and green here at the moment - it's a lovely time of year to see the crops growing.

Sorry about the quality, but it was just taken with a little digital camera that I have. Thanks to an incredibly generous birthday gift (it's my birthday tomorrow - 15th August!), I will soon have an SLR camera to play with. I extremely excited about this and if you have any recommendations I would dearly love to know.

I am actually going away next week on a little HOLIDAY with Robert but will try and schedule some posts for each day. I really look forward to catching up on all your entries when I get back.

I am converted! Prior to the weekend just gone, the last time I had been camping was six years ago and for various reason it was a really, really dreadful experience. This time I had an absolute ball! We were with a fantastic group of friends at a gorgeous spot located at the foothills of Mt Kaputar. It was wonderful to be surrounded by a mountain range again. (Before I went away to school in Sydney, I grew up in a beautiful district called Mudgee which quite literally means 'nest in the hills'). These images are far more comfortable than what we experienced camping in the back of our horse-floats but could certainly be a happy-medium for anyone who is after a weekend that is closer to nature.

At last! I've finally finished and dropped off some invitations I designed for a friend who is hosting a party soon to celebrate 110 years since his family arrived on their property. It's going to be a daytime event which is fantastic - nothing beats long lunches with lots of delicious food and wine.

This weekend we're heading to another polo-crosse carnival. This time there is absolutely no motel in sight so we will have to camp...grrrr!!! Luckily though, the carnival's held at the foothills of a really beautiful mountain range so this should make up for it somewhat.

Attending all of these horse sport events has me thinking about the Spring Racing Carnival that is just around the corner. These gorgeous creations are from Melbourne based milliner Estelle Michaelides. Each exquisite limited edition piece is made with materials sourced from all around the globe. I recently came across these gorgeous ceramics by May Luk whilst visiting Style Files. May Luk recently returned to New York from London, where she studied ceramics at Kensington Chelsea College and Glasgow School of Art. Her original training in illustration comes through onto her clay work, which has an emphasis on image making and graphic decorations. I love the simplicity of her work and thought the fashion editorial shot by Nick Scott was a perfect match for their natural charm.

Wow, where did Monday go!? It's polo-crosse season here at the moment, so I spent the weekend out at a carnival hosted by a tiny rural township called 'Dirranbandi'. I honestly think that the more remote a place is, the more welcoming and proud the communities seem to be. Perhaps this is because they all share the same roller-coaster ride of rewards and adversities that inherently comes with living on the land. There were actually a few backpackers there from the UK and I couldn't help but think what a wonderful experience this must be for all of them. Rather than just bouncing from hostel to hostel in the cities, they were truly being embraced by, and immersed in, the community where they were all temporarily working.

Although camping isn't one of my favourite past times (Robert and I still managed to find a motel to stay in!) sitting around a burning open camp fire certainly is. I find it somewhat hypnotic and incredibly relaxing. I think these beautiful images styled by Laurence Pasquier capture that wonderful feeling we experienced last weekend of just sitting outside with friends enjoying a few drinks and lots of laughs. I really look forward to going back there again next year!

I recently found these vintage coca-cola Christmas advertisements on the back of some old National Geographic magazines that had been stored in an old cupboard at home for years. I just thought they were the most wonderful find and wanted to share them with you all.

In Australia, celebrating 'Christmas in July' is an occasion that seems to be gaining some momentum as the weather at this time of year is much more suitable for serving a traditional hot Christmas dinner. I thought that I would skip straight to dessert though and post a few of my favourite Christmas sweets & treats. I haven't written the recipes but please just email me if you would like to be sent a copy.

I think Hugh Steward and Jane Roarty have a wonderful way of depicting rural Australia with an edge. Hugh seems to capture a certain honesty and down-to-earthness in his images that really appeals to me. Perhaps that is why he was chosen to shoot the 'Portraits of a Nation' story recently that invited some of our nation's top designers to transform the iconic Bonds singlet into a uniquely 'Aussie' work of art.

The images from Marie Claire also remind me that there is something really comforting about eating warm, wholesome food surrounded by rustic interiors.

Before I moved out here to be with my beautiful husband, I worked in corporate marketing and events for a law firm. One part of the job that I loved was the creative process of coming up with the event concepts. Luckily for me, when I was working at Freehills they were trying to host client events that were much more inclusive of females and the entire family (as opposed to just corporate box tickets to the football!) One of the annual events that they became quite renowned for were their 'Think Pink' breast cancer fundraisers. If I was still there I would have loved the opportunity to have presented the above images as a concept for this occasion. I think what Lollipop Events & Design created for this actual 'Bubbles, baubles & breasts' fundraiser in Malibu is just amazing and I'm very jealous that they had a client like this to work with! I found the intersecting fashion editorial in one of my favourite magazines 'Australian Country Style' (both Lara Hutton and Corrie Bond have beautiful online portfolios). I thought the photographs fitted the overall family friendly theme really well.

In my opinion, I think a team of stylists and photographers have truly succeeded when they capture images that someone like me looks at a thinks - 'I could do that'. That amazing effortless look that the average person feels they could also achieve with just a little extra creativity and planning. That is why I was so excited when I stumbled upon these images. To me, this setting is absolutely PERFECT! It has really inspired me to try and recreate something similar either under our Bottle-tree in the garden or somewhere out on the farm. (I promise I'll share any photos if I do manage to do this). Meanwhile, I highly recommend you visit duet-weddings to read how they created this beautiful setting.

I thought I might start a new series. Every Monday morning I will feature a different dream 'Weekend Host' destination that I hope provides some escapism from the start of your regular weekly grind. Enjoy!

'Shampole' is located in a private conservancy on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment in Southern Kenya, overlooking the vast plains and volcanic hills of the Great Rift Valley. Each room, designed to harness the colours and textures of the surrounding natural landscape, combines a variety of white quartz stone, pale thatch, polished fig-wood and smooth white walls that give it both a unique contemporary style and a touch of the African bush. Water is a main feature of the property, flowing through each room and collecting in private cool pools where one can peacefully enjoy the expanse and stretches to the horizon.

I promise this is the last of my daydreaming posts for a while! I thought the layout in the first image with the white picnic blankets and buckets of flowers was just beautiful. I'm sure that this could be achieved on a much simpler scale by purchasing metres of the same fabric and perhaps just arranging smaller bouquets of flowers either from your own garden or wrapping pot-plants like Chelsea has done here. Ummm.....now as for the second image, I think I'll just have to file that one into my 'how the other half lives' folder for a while.

Writing about Sydney yesterday reminded me of how much I loved, and still do when we visit, being able walk around the beautiful harbour foreshore. It's a view I don't think you could ever tire of. I'm flying down there in a couple of weeks for my 10 year school reunion (can't believe it's been that long already) so I'll make sure I get a good dose of it before heading home.

I thought these images perfectly captured the beautiful autumn days that can be experienced in Sydney. I had a small chuckle to myself after I read French illustrator Garance Dore's post about Sydney street fashion when she here last in May;

"Showoffs! Girls in Australia, they take on autumn with a philosophy. They pick out a few warmer pieces from a winter wardrobe but wear them with bare legs and caramel skin. It’s like it’s make-believe winter, just for fun or something. I love this interseasonal mix but it totally drives me crazy: I’m so jealous!"

I am really drawn to the stunning photography featured on these two products as it highlights the origin of the produce they contain.

Spanish design firm Moruba created the packaging for Matsu, an organic winery from the Toro D.O. The packaging solution adopted is faithful to Matsu's philosophy to link directly with nature and with the people who care about it. Thus, the Matsu's wine triology, 'El Picaro', 'El Recio' and 'El Viejo' are represented by a portrait series of three generations that devote their lives to the field. Each one personality embodies the characteristics of the wine that gets its name. Renowned photographers, Bela Adler and Salvador Fresneda, were chosen to capture the portraits that bring life to the characters of Matsu.

The second image is designed by Peter Watts for a new boutique Australian olive oil brand 'Picked in June'. The photography is from the actual property in Central Victoria.

I think I have developed a new blog crush on {Frolic}. I find Chelsea' approach to styling so accessible and unpretentious. She seems to have a wonderful talent for arranging really simple elements in a beautiful way. I find her ideas provide an affordable way to create a stunning impact that can easily be achieved by anyone entertaining at home. What do you think?

These are just a few cheery images I came across this week that certainly put a smile on my face as it has been particularly bleak and overcast here. My favourite is the centre image from 'A small bite of a Mondo Cheery'. A really sweet, simple and understated way to arrange flowers.

I have been attending an art class for the last few months and realise how spoilt I have been with the ease my design programs provide me with when I'm developing a project. I truly appreciate now the incredible skill and talent of traditional artists.

I really like the work of Michel Canetti. He is a Paris born artisit and advertising illustrator who has been living in Melbourne since 1997. His work is a delicate balance between creativity and control; flowing, rounded curves and sharp, sophisticated detail - the full, soft skirt of a ballgown balanced by delicate pointed heels. Michel has produced editorial illustrations for Elle and Vogue in France. Some of his fashion and beauty clients include Burberry, Guerlain, Chanel, Estee Lauder and Louis Vuitton.

(I'm hoping my husband might read this post because a couple of his limited edition prints would make a lovely gift for my Birthday in August!)

Last Sunday we had 10 friends over for an impromptu dinner because late in the afternoon a shower of rain had halted planting (this is one of the perks I've found since marrying a farmer - everyone stops working when it rains!) I had very little in the cupboard to prepare a meal but with some creative thinking I managed to pull a few ingredients together. It was a really relaxed, fun night and in all honesty I think some of the best times I've had are at completely unplanned occasions. That is why these images really appealed to me. Other that the chandeliers, it's really just about making use of whatever is at hand to design a comfortable space to enjoy each others company.

I have a bit to catch up on today as unfortunately I was having trouble with the images I was trying to upload on Monday (for some reason they looked like film negatives when I uploaded them onto blogger.) Anyway, not to sure why but I seem to have it all sorted now.

I adore the first image of our very own quintessential Aussie glamour girl Jennifer Hawkins modelling Nicola Finetti's drapped mini-dress. I think that blue and white is such a fresh, crisp and timeless design combination. Accents of blue can dramatically highlight an interior/exterior. Royal blue can add high drama while gentle pastel shades create an eased and relaxed space. I would love to recreate a similar setting to that shown in the last image. You may recall in a post earlier this week that I mentioned a family friend of mine Angela, author of Wicker & Stitch, was going to have her first magazine editorial published in the next issue of Home Beautiful. Well, her story has made the FRONT COVER!! How incredibly exciting and what an amazing achievement for her debute feature. The home she wrote about and co-styled is owned by Bree Oliver, owner of Olive Interiors in Sydney, who also writes a beautiful blog called A Paddington Perspective.

I would dearly love to share more images but unfortunately the magazine has only just gone on sale, so you'll just have to pick up copy for yourself (if you live outside of Australia, I've purchased a few extra copies and I would be more than happy to do a magazine swap with anyone that's interested). Just thought I would provide a small snippet though of Angela's opening paragraph to help paint a better picture of Bree's exquisite interior;

"Stepping across the threshold of Bree Oliver's recently renovated home in the inner-Sydney suburb of Paddington is akin to stumbling upon an immaculate corner of paradise, where Parisian chic melds seamlessly with New York sophistication. What is quite inspirational about Angela, is that it was only a few years ago that she couragesly made the decision to step away from her law career to pursue her passion for design.

I was just reading a post written by Kellie from Ada and Darcy about how she took her dog Lily to a lovely cafe in her local park this weekend that serves 'puppacinos' - how cute! It reminded me of the photo above taken by Lena Koller that I found a some time ago. I know it may seem a little over the top for pets but it is so very, very sweet that I just had to share. If you haven't previously visited Ada and Darcy I highly recommend you do so. Kellie has a fantastic eye for style, fashion, interiors and decor and will soon be launching an online store as well - can't wait!

Lewidoo Fancies - Lewidoo was the very first person to have left a comment on my blog. I'm not sure if other bloggers felt the same exhilaration as I did when I read my first message - but I was extremely excited at the time. For that reason Lewidoo will always be super special blogger to me.

Lastly, I must thank Holly Becker from Decor8blog.
